The nourishing formula features Tamanu Oil which has remarkable skin-regenerative properties and was traditionally used to heal wounds and cure various skin problems and ailments. I'd only seen amazing reviews about how great this product had been for other people with sensitive rosacea skin, so of course, I got it and started using it. It was okay, but didn't really do anything for my skin, apart from making it feel a bit irritated.
2 months later, I had an allergic reaction, my face blew up, my eyes swollen shut. I had no idea at the time what had caused it, and it takes 1-2 weeks for my face to heal afterwards. So after that, I would use my staple products for a couple months to let my skin recuperate properly. But then I realised I was having these terrible allergic reactions every couple of months (one which sent me to the hospital, because the swelling was getting worse each time, and it was swelling the bottom of my face, making it hard to breathe). I started having to carry epi-pens around, because the doctors weren't sure what I was allergic to!
I've never been allergic to anything in my life, so I went to the doctors, booked an appointment for prick test, nothing hit, tried to get an appointment for patch testing (by this time, about 1.5 years had passed, because it takes like 7 months to get an appointment), and while waiting for my patch test appointment to roll around, decided to try each of my products in isolation each time after my skin healed. First product I tested was this, and after about the 9th reaction within 2 years, I finally found that this was the culprit!!
I do believe that it's been great for other people, I don't know if it was a bad batch or really this product is just not formulated well for my skin, but I thought it's important to post this review, just in case anyone else starts having reactions, because all I could find were great reviews, so I didn't even suspect my bottle of Great Barrier Relief, and it took so much of my time in the past 2 years, including weeks off work because my eyes were swollen shut.
I don’t hate the fragrance but it is unusual and quite strong initially. Aside from that this is an amazing serum for my dry skin. I also have rosacea but didn’t react to this serum. I have incorporated it into my daily routine and will definitely repurchase
Eady to use. Sinks into the skin quickly. Huge help with dry skin.
it makes my skin feel so nice and hydrated
I have abandoned my skin for a very long time and watching skincare enthusiast about so many different products, then i stumbled upon James Welsh recommending this one for extra TLC for our skin. I have been using this for two weeks, there were a few nights missing the routine because i crash the bed early. I can slightly feel and see the difference now that i have less breakout and irritation will continue this for at least a month and see where I’m at!
